Tony Touch Speaks On The Importance Of Radio Hosts Being Up On Their New Music

Shade 45's Tony Touch reveals that to stay relevant as a radio host "you gotta pay attention to the artists.”
From b-boy to recognized radio host, Tony Touch has made quite the name for himself with gigs at radio stations across the country. In a recent interview with AlLindstrom.com, Tony Touch spoke on breaking into the radio industry as well as his current gig at Shade 45.
Tony Touch kicked off the interview with a quick rundown of the various radio stations he’s worked at which includes everything from a radio station in Florida oddly titled BJ 105 to New York City’s premiere Hip Hop and R&B stations HOT 97 and Power 105.
“My first radio gig was in Orlando, Florida. It was an AM station. I think it was WORL. If I remember the [core] letters correctly,” said Tony Touch. “Don’t laugh, but I was at a station called BJ 105…Came to New York my first radio gig in New York was HOT 97 believe it or not. I was doing a show with the Furious Five called the Mic Check Show. They had a run for about a year or two up there…I did Power 105 for about three, four years. That was in 2005. I got down with them. No, no I got down with Power 105 around 2002. And them I’m on Sirius Shade 45 now. Six years, I started that 2005.”

Tony Touch explained that as a radio host it’s extremely important to pay attention to both the new artists and new records surfacing each day.

“The focus of the show, we definitely pay attention to a lot of new artists. I mean me being in the mixtape movement, the mixtape community for so many years 20 to be exact, I’ve always been known to break new records and break new artists and stuff like that,” Tony Touch explained. “It started with the mixtapes and now it’s carried over into the radio show now. And I have an opportunity to do interviews. Pretty much program my own show for four hours. In that time man in order to stay current and relevant you gotta pay attention to the artists.”

Kanye West is one of several investors in Turntable.fm, an increasingly popular social network where users can upload and play songs for others.
According to Business Insider, ‘Ye and Lady Gaga join Union Square Ventures as investors in the site. As investors, the artists contributed to a $7.5 million financing that took place last month at a $37.5 million valuation.
Though the site has become an Internet sensation, critics have been questioning its legality. Now that several celebrity investors are on board, the criticism might die down.
